Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Breathe life into your body’s natural healing power.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive therapy that may supercharge your body’s ability to repair and regenerate. By breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber, your bloodstream becomes saturated with oxygen, delivering enhanced healing to areas starved of circulation.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, boosting post-surgical recovery, or simply looking to optimise your wellbeing and performance, HBOT offers a natural way to support your body’s innate ability to heal and thrive.

At The Hale Clinic, our chambers provide a safe, comfortable environment for this transformative therapy — trusted by athletes, wellness seekers, and those looking for a natural approach to improved health and recovery.

HOW IT WORKS

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a relaxing and effective therapy that enhances your body’s ability to repair, regenerate, and restore. But what actually happens during a session? Here’s what to expect from start to finish when you attend The Hale Clinic for HBOT:

Step-by-Step: What Happens During Your Session

  1. Arrival & Preparation
You’ll be welcomed by our friendly team and guided through a short questinnaire to ensure HBOT is appropriate and safe for your needs. We'll answer any last-minute questions and help you feel completely at ease.

  2. Entering the Chamber
Once you're ready, you’ll enter the hyperbaric chamber and either sit or lie down comfortably. You’ll be given a mask or nasal cannula to breathe in the pure oxygen throughout the session.

  3. Pressurisation Begins
As the session starts, the chamber’s air pressure gradually increases to a level significantly higher than normal atmospheric pressure—similar to what you might experience in an aircraft cabin. This process takes a few minutes and may cause a slight sensation in your ears, similar to when flying or diving (our staff will guide you on how to relieve this comfortably).

  4. Therapy in Progress (60–90 Minutes)
Once the chamber reaches the pressure, you’ll begin breathing in pure oxygen. Under these conditions, your lungs absorb a much higher concentration of oxygen, which dissolves into your blood plasma.
Many patients use this time to relax, listen to music, meditate, or simply enjoy a moment of quiet.

  5. Monitoring & Care
Throughout the session, our trained staff will monitor you closely for comfort and safety. We ensure everything runs smoothly, so you can focus on the healing process.

  6. De-pressurisation & Exit
After the session is complete, the chamber is slowly depressurised to normal levels. You’ll feel the pressure ease gradually, and our team will assist you with exiting the chamber calmly and comfortably.

  7. Post-Treatment Support
After your session, you may feel refreshed and energised. Depending on your health goals, our team may recommend a treatment plan tailored to your ongoing needs.

The benefits of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Therapy

PRE/POST SURGERY & AESTHETIC TREATMENTS

Support for Surgery & Aesthetic Recovery

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a powerful complement to both medical surgery and aesthetic treatments, helping your body heal faster, reduce inflammation, and minimise downtime. Whether you’re preparing for a procedure or recovering afterwards, HBOT may play a vital role in enhancing your results and overall wellbeing.

Pre & Post-Surgery Recovery

Heal smarter, not just faster.

Undergoing surgery places significant stress on the body. HBOT may help optimise your recovery by oxygenating tissues, boosting immune function, and accelerating the natural healing process.

Benefits of HBOT for Surgery:

  • Speeds up wound healing and tissue repair

  • Reduces inflammation and bruising

  • Lowers risk of post-operative infection

  • Enhances oxygen delivery to surgical sites with compromised circulation

  • Promotes overall energy and recovery

Whether it’s orthopaedic, cardiovascular, or general surgery, HBOT provides your body with the oxygen it needs to rebuild and bounce back more effectively.

Aesthetic & Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

Refine and recover — beautifully.

Minor aesthetic procedures like fillers, Botox, microneedling, and laser treatments can lead to temporary swelling, redness, or bruising. HBOT may enhance skin regeneration and circulation, helping you heal faster and achieve optimal, longer-lasting results.

Benefits of HBOT for Aesthetic Recovery:

  • Minimises swelling, bruising, and redness

  • Speeds up tissue recovery post-laser or microneedling

  • Enhances collagen production and skin renewal

  • Improves overall complexion and tone

  • Reduces risk of post-treatment inflammation

SPORTS RECOVERY / MUSCULOSKELETAL SUPPORT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) may play a supportive role in sports recovery and the maintenance of musculoskeletal health. By delivering concentrated oxygen to the body under increased atmospheric pressure, HBOT may enhance the body’s natural healing processes—an effect that may be particularly beneficial following intense physical exertion or musculoskeletal strain.

During a session, the elevated oxygen levels may help reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and support circulation to muscles, tendons, and joints. This may assist in relieving discomfort associated with overuse, fatigue, or minor soft tissue injuries, and may shorten downtime between training sessions or competitions.

Athletes and physically active individuals may benefit from the calming and restorative environment HBOT provides, allowing the body to recover in a controlled, low-stress setting. Improved oxygenation may also support mitochondrial function and cellular energy production, which are essential for muscle repair and endurance.

While HBOT is not a replacement for physiotherapy or medical treatment, it may serve as a valuable complement to traditional recovery strategies—helping to maintain mobility, reduce stiffness, and promote overall physical wellbeing.

PHYSIOLOGICAL BENEFITS

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) may help support psychological wellbeing by offering a tranquil environment that encourages rest and recovery. The increased oxygen availability under pressure may contribute to improved cellular function, which in turn may support overall brain health. This process may help promote mental clarity and focus, and may also assist in managing feelings of stress or fatigue.

By allowing the body to enter a deeply relaxed state, HBOT sessions may serve as a quiet pause from the demands of daily life—an opportunity to reset and restore. While not a treatment for mental health conditions, HBOT may be a beneficial component of a broader wellness approach that prioritises balance, relaxation, and self-care.

COGNITIVE HEALTH

The increased absorption of oxygen by the blood plasma helps heal damaged brain tissue, increases blood flow to your brain and reduces inflammation in the brain. This not only leaves you feeling rejuvenated and calm after your session but can also enhance your learning & memory capabilities, concentration and ability to multitask. HBOT can be considered as a more natural option that aids in the management of depression, stress, anxiety and general mental clarity. When HBOT is used in conjuction with treatment for long-term brain conditions such as alzeihmers, dementia, tumors, parkinson etc., it has been shown to improve cognitive and motor function.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IMPROVEMENT IN ONE’S COGNITIVE HEALTH

HBOT has been noted for increasing the levels of of BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor), BMSC (Bone Marrow Stem Cells) and restores mitochondrail function in brain cells - all of which are released during the growth of new brain tissue and neurogenesis (the production of brand new brain cells).

  • BDNF is a protein that is released in the process of neurogenesis (the production of brand new brain cells). Studies have shown that even low pressures were able to cause significant increases in BDNF. This protein is vital to learning and memory, and mental clarity. Neurogenesis has been shown to be significantly enhanced through the application of Oxygenation therapy, particularly following trauma to the brain or the central nervous system.

  • HBOT restores mitochondrial function releasing HIF (hypoxic induced factor 1alpha) which can initiate the processes to cope with stress, anxiety etc.

  • Mobilization of BMSCs were shown to be improved with sessions of HBOT, which is crucial for pro-neurogenic (nervous system growth) effects.

  • HBOT protects the neurons after a traumatic injury.

ANTI-AGEING & BEAUTY

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) may offer support in addressing age-related skin concerns and enhancing natural beauty from within. By delivering concentrated oxygen in a pressurised environment, HBOT helps saturate tissues with oxygen—an essential element in the body's ability to generate new cells, repair skin, and form new blood vessels.

One of the key ways HBOT is thought to promote healthy ageing is through the stimulation of the body’s natural antioxidant defences. By enhancing the body's resilience to environmental and lifestyle-related stressors, HBOT may contribute to skin clarity, cellular health, and overall rejuvenation.

Emerging research suggests that HBOT may influence biological ageing markers, including telomere length—structures associated with cellular ageing and age-related conditions. Though individual responses vary, this area of research highlights HBOT’s potential as a supportive therapy in age management strategies.

HBOT is also being explored for its role in protecting and rejuvenating the skin, particularly in response to environmental factors such as UV exposure. Pressurised oxygen conditions have been observed to reduce wrinkle formation linked to UV damage, and regular HBOT sessions may help improve skin elasticity and promote natural collagen production. Oxygen is widely used in skincare due to its potential to enhance cellular metabolism, which is thought to encourage a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

Patients often incorporate HBOT into their beauty and wellness routines to help promote radiant skin, improved tone, and a smoother, more revitalised look—naturally and non-invasively.

Hyperbaric oxygen should not be considered as a substitute for medical care advised by a medical professional.
