Naturopathy
The healing power of nature is a powerful tool. The body can heal cuts, mend broken bones, rid itself of infections etc.
Naturopathy, also known as natural medicine, or natural therapeutics is the western version of other holistic, nature-based medical systems that harness the body’s own natural healing process.
The principles of naturopathy are those of good health care, both as prevention - health can be maintained by the correct balance of rest, exercise and plain food in moderation — and treatment — the body has the ability to heal itself, and therefore treatments should be as natural as possible.
Diagnosis is made through Orthodox techniques such as X-rays, blood pressure readings and more ‘alternative’ methods like iridology, tongue analysis and pulse readings.
Relying on herbal remedies and diet management, naturopathy seeks to restore and/or maintain ‘homeostasis’ — inner self-regulating harmony or ‘vital force’. Unhealthy lifestyles — stress, pollutants, eating and sleeping patterns, poor exercise — result in a weakening of the ‘vital force’. It is at this point viruses, bacteria and allergens take hold. Understanding and addressing the underlying causes, rather than suppressing the symptoms themselves, starts the naturopathic healing process. Changes in lifestyle and diet continue to rid the body of toxins and bolster its defences.
The length of treatment depends on your progress and the naturopath will watch for various signs. Naturopaths are also trained in Hydrotherapy, herbalism and homeopathy and may call on some of these treatments.
