Ear Candling/Coning
Ear coning dates back to the ancient Egyptian, Chinese, Tibetan, Aztec and American Indian cultures. Today ear coning is done by Cherokee, Mexican and European healers. German medical students are taught coning as a part of their medical practice. Many people consider ear coning as necessary a part of personal hygiene as tooth brushing.
Coning is very soothing, relaxing and non –invasive, and there is no heat felt in the ear canal. Each cone imported from Arizona, is approximately 15 inches long and handmade from 100% un-bleached cotton, 100% bees wax and herbs such as St Johns Wort, Mullein and chamomile.
Ear coning is a sage remedy for relieving pressure, fighting infection and gently removing toxins and excess wax from inside the ears. The long tapered cone is inserted into the ears and lit. Warm, dry smoke from the cone draws out excess fluids, wax and toxic debris by osmosis. At the same time, vaporised beeswax and herbal essences in the smoke infuse their natural infection-fighting properties into the inner ear, sinuses and lymph drainage system. The spiral in the cone, and the herbal smoke in the ear canal, work together to stimulate the respiratory system to cleanse.
The benefits can include improved hearing, vision, taste, smell, balance and sharpened mental ability. Ear coning helps to detoxify the sinuses, remove lymph congestion and can help with earaches, chronic headaches and allergies.
A course of three conings is a good way of treating the mind/body connection, whereby the first coning would be a native blend, which is especially soothing for the ear canal and has an anti-inflammatory action using Mullein flower, St John’s Wort and Chamomile. The second coning (there is usually one week between conings) uses Osha Root, a North American Indian remedy which is especially effective for removing long-standing mucus deposits. It is a powerful dispeller of negativity. The third coning uses Rose. It opens the heart chakra with an uplifting and stimulation effect. It can relieve depression, nervous tension, sadness and emotional shock.
