Zen Yoga
Zen yoga: Yoga is the science of happiness. It means in very simple terms: Union. Zen in its most simplistic form means: Right here, right now! - In this very moment - Being ‘present’. Zen Yoga is a very beautiful, creative and wonderful practise that is simple to incorporate into your health, fitness and beauty regime.
It does not follow any religious dogma, its roots are in Buddhism –ie, balance. It is a form of yoga that focuses on the alignment of the postures whilst maintaining a dynamic, flowing, moving class. Working with energy, breathing and the subtle system, you will very slowly become more attuned and sensitive to your body and your practice - very subtly you will begin to work from the inside out as opposed to initially working from the outside in!
Zen yoga includes flowing asanas (postures) with the breath. Mindfulness of the body is one of the 4 practices that Buddha taught that led directly to enlightenment. In Zen yoga the quality of awareness in our practice is paramount.
Each pose puts the body in a new position which brings new parts of the body into focus so that we can become aware of any tightness or tension within the body. As we bring our awareness to these areas of tension they immediately start to shift and release.
The great Zen master 'Hakuin' taught that Buddha's are like water and ordinary people are like ice. Our Zen yoga practice melts away the tightness and resistance that prevents us from enjoying the flow of liberation. Zen yoga works with the mind, body and spirit, thus enabling you to feel de-stressed, re-energised, replenished, relaxed and centred after your practice.
You will tone, build bone density and core strength. You will become much happier, lighter, shiny, present, fit and peaceful.
