Swedish or Classic Massage
Swedish massage is a classic treatment which represents the Western standard for other forms of massage. It was developed by Henri Peter Ling, a Swedish physiologist in the eighteenth century, and incorporates six basic techniques: Effleurage (long, sweeping strokes); Friction (induced heat to relax the muscles); Petrissage (kneading and squeezing of the muscles); Tapottement (chopping movement with hands); Traction (pulling movements of limbs and head) and Vibration (technique performed with the therapist’s hands).
Swedish massage is a calming, relaxing experience that can be used to help with specific ailments such as poor circulation, muscular pain and stress.
It can also be enjoyed as a preventative treatment to promote general wellbeing Light oil is used to perform the massage so therefore the client will be required to remove their clothes for the treatment.
Whilst the therapist is working on specific areas of the body, the remainder of the body is draped with towels.
