Shonishin Paediatric Acupuncture

Shonishin Paediatric Acupuncture is a non-invasive form of bodywork that originated in Japan in the 17th century. Shonishin consists of gentle, specialised, non-inserted treatment techniques along the acupuncture meridians to stimulate acupuncture points and balance a child’s energy. Techniques may involve light tapping, rubbing, rhythmic stroking and pressing the skin to harmonise and fortify vital energy, or qi.

Children and babies are extremely receptive to Shonishin treatment, as it is comfortable and even pleasurable for them to experience. Also children have such an abundance of vital energy that they react very quickly to the stimulus in a very positive way. Other treatment modalities may also be employed including moxibustion, cupping, Tui Na massage, herbal supplements and dietary advice.

Shonishin can be used to help treat the following conditions: weak constitution, colic, excessive night crying, temper tantrums, indigestion, GERD, constipation, diarrohea, ADHD, allergies, asthma, colds, eczema, ear infections, bedwetting, stuttering, cerebral palsy and spina bifida.
