Karina Boston has over 25 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist and 15 years experience as a Cognitive Behaviour therapist.
Her inspiration to study psychology first arose in the context of her work as a nurse, where she realised that medical staff adhered purely to a medical model in the treatment of physical illness, without considering the psychological aspects of the patient’s ill health.
Karina specialises in CBT and works with adults who suffer from a wide variety of psychological disorders requiring short, medium and longer term therapy. She provides treatment for clients who suffer from depression, panic attacks and various anxiety disorders such as phobias, social and health related anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress.
Karina treats clients with relationship problems and has many years experience in treating work related stress. She also provides bereavement counselling and psychological therapy and support for clients who suffer from physical illnesses such as chronic pain, CFS, MS, Parkinsons and IBS. Her area of special interest is in working with the elderly, in providing sensitive and supportive counselling for this client group. Other areas of interest include complex personality disorders and relapse prevention.
Karina attends workshops regularly to keep up with developments in the field of cognitive behaviour therapy; and recognises the important contribution complementary therapies such as yoga, meditation and healing have on addressing physical, mental and spiritual imbalances, as well as her clients’ peace of mind and general well being.
Where appropriate Karina feels these therapies can also be successfully applied alongside other psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy.
